Yellowfin Development is based on Long Island, New York. Not “serving the Long Island area” from somewhere else – actually here, in Nassau County, building websites for local businesses across both counties. Stephen Knight has been doing this work on Long Island since 1996. That’s nearly three decades of knowing the market, the clients, and what actually works for small businesses trying to get found online.
What We Do
We handle everything a Long Island small business needs online – website design and development, WordPress and WooCommerce, SEO and local search rankings, Google Ads, Google Business Profile management, business email, web hosting, domain registration, website repair, and ongoing support. One company, one point of contact, one monthly invoice.
Why Work With a Local Developer?
There’s no shortage of web design agencies willing to take your money from anywhere in the country. What most of them can’t offer is someone who actually knows Long Island – the local search landscape, the industries that drive the Nassau and Suffolk economy, and what small business owners here are actually dealing with day to day. Stephen served as a computer operator in the U.S. Marine Corps before spending nearly three decades building websites professionally.
When you work with Yellowfin, you’re working directly with Stephen Knight – the person who built your site, knows your business, and answers when you call. No account managers, no hand-offs, no overseas development teams. One experienced developer who has been doing this work on Long Island since 1996 and treats every client like they’re the only one.
Yellowfin is based in Freeport. Over the years the work has taken us across both counties – from clients in Garden City and Great Neck to Huntington, Smithtown, and out to the East End. Long Island is a big place with a lot of different kinds of businesses. We know the territory.
“Born in West Islip, raised in Bay Shore, schooled in Bay Shore, lived in Babylon, Massapequa, Ronkonkoma, Huntington, and Sayville – worked everywhere from the Nassau-Queens border to the South Fork, with more than a few stints in the city as well. Studied at Suffolk Community College and Nassau Community College. I know Long Island.“
Stephen Knight – Founder, Yellowfin Development
“He takes your vision and brings it to life. Whether it’s a small fix or the world is burning – he’s on it like you’re his only client.”

Long Island Work
Some of this work sits a few minutes from the office. Jeffrey’s Landscape Construction has served Long Island for over 50 years and runs on a Yellowfin build from right here in Freeport. A Long Island chiropractor voted Best Chiropractor on Long Island came in with a site taken down by malware – we cleaned it out, rebuilt it properly, and still manage it today. The Hero Down Foundation, a veteran nonprofit, runs on a Yellowfin build. And the work stretches past the county line to a Brooklyn audio company that needed a store live in time for a national trade show. Different businesses, same standard.
Where We Work
Based in Freeport, working across both counties. If your business is anywhere on Long Island – from the Queens border to Montauk – you are in our backyard. The full list of towns, villages, and zip codes is on the service area page.
Nassau County
Freeport, Rockville Centre, Garden City, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Massapequa, Oceanside, Long Beach, Hempstead, Mineola, Hicksville, Great Neck, Manhasset, Baldwin, Seaford, Levittown, Westbury, and every village in between.

Not on Long Island? Most of the roster is local, but the work travels – businesses across New York and the country get the same build quality and the same direct line.
Long Island Web Design Questions
“Best” is a marketing word. Every agency with a landing page claims it, and there is no scoreboard. What you can actually compare: live sites, load speed, who does the building, and whether you can reach that person after launch. At Yellowfin, the person you call is the person who built your site – one developer, on Long Island since 1996, with a 5.0 rating across every Google review. Look at the work, run the sites through a speed test, then call around and see who picks up.
It depends on what you need – a five-page site and a thirty-page store are not the same job. Projects are scoped individually and you get a real number before anything begins. Starting points are on the Process and Pricing page. What you will not pay for here: account managers, project coordinators, or agency overhead. The quote covers the person doing the work.
Yes – a lot of the work is exactly that. Malware cleanups, hacked sites, broken layouts, abandoned WordPress installs, and full redesigns of sites that fell behind. One Long Island practice came in with a site taken down by malware and left with a clean rebuild that still runs today. Start at website repair and we can usually tell you what is wrong in the first five minutes.
Yes. Your domain, your site, your content. Sites are built on WordPress so you can update text and photos yourself, and if you would rather not touch it, a care plan covers it. Hosting with Yellowfin is the default because it keeps one person responsible for the whole stack – but nothing is held hostage, ever.
Based in Freeport, and most of the roster is Nassau and Suffolk – but the work travels. Clients across New York and the country get the same direct line and the same build quality. Local just means that when a Long Island business calls, we already know the market they are trying to win.
Small business sites typically run a few weeks; bigger builds and stores take longer. You get an honest timeline up front, and deadline work happens when it has to – one product-launch store shipped on time for a national trade show because there was no second option. The schedule gets stated before the work starts, not discovered after.
